I have been a part of the FBC body since the fall of 1998 and have served the body as a volunteer youth leader, youth pastor and as our lead pastor since March 2005. Since my conversion in 1987, my desire in life, has been to see people, “Taste and see that the Lord is good”, and through this tasting, experience the life transforming relationship with God through the work of Jesus Christ. I am married to Danica and have two children, Hannah and Micah.

My wife, Cathy, and I have attended First Baptist since 2010. We followed our grandchildren to Durango after 27 years in elementary education. God has greatly impacted my life through community and small groups. I look forward to seeing others "grow in Christ" as we participate in community together. We have three children and four grandchildren.

I grew up in a non-Christian household out in California and became a follower of Jesus Christ in 1987 while attending San Diego State University. I moved to Durango in 1995 and married Abbey Hugins in Dec. of 1998. We have 2 sons, Marcus and Anthony. I’ve been a church member at 1st B since 1999 and have been actively involved in serving our church body and community. I currently work as an Account Representative at StoneAge Waterblast Tools. A key scripture that has guided my life is I Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

God used a praying mom, a university campus ministry, and a myriad of people and circumstances to draw me to Himself. Some great iron-sharpening brothers in the faith and solid Bible teaching have been influential to help grow my faith and to begin to learn how to enjoy God. FBC has been my church home since shortly after my wife, Kathryn, and I arrived in Durango in 2002. We are blessed with children Aidan, Daniel, Taia, and Johanna. I've lived in several different places in the US, but Durango longer than anywhere else. I love the beauty and intentionality of how Christ's body is comprised of very different parts working, suffering, and rejoicing together under God's arrangement (1 Cor 12).

I came to faith in college at large group bible study where I saw my sin and God's grace in Christ for the first time. By God’s grace through faith I was forgiven of my sin and my identity was found in who Christ is and what He has done for me instead of what i had. Since that time he has done a mighty work in me heal me of sin and grow me in grace. I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelors degree in business where I also played baseball. After receiving my bachelors degree, I attended Redeemer Seminary where I acquired a Master of Arts in Religion. My ministry experience includes time in youth ministry, missions, and church planting. Most recently, I was a pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, AR. There I was a Discipleship Pastor with oversight of our care and recovery ministries.

While others dream of careers, cars, homes, and travel, she grew up her knowing her greatest desire was always children and family.. First Baptist became her church home at the age of five when her mother and father, Alice and Roy Brown joined First Baptist. In the years prior to becoming children’s ministry director she was involved in many of the ministries that she watched her mother and father serve in as they served in ministry at First Baptist. Her father was a part of church leadership. Much like her mother, she served as a Sunday school teacher, preschool director, deaconess, and in the camp ministry of Whispering Pines. Every child matters to God and He has a great love for them. Her love for children is great. Her desire to see children become disciples of Christ and the training and equipping of families to spiritually train their children is intentional. ALL things children are loved by Devona.
